Dr. Richard Stangler, M.D.

Richard Stangler, M.D., is an Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Fox Eye.  Dr. Stangler, a Minnesota native, graduated from the University of Notre Dame with Highest Honors.  His medical degree and Ophthalmology residency was completed at the University of Minnesota.  A highly competitive fellowship providing additional training in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeries was performed at the William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan.  Dr. Stangler also served as a USAF Medical Center Staff Ophthalmologist at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base with commendation for his outstanding medical service and as a Clinical Instructor of Ophthalmology at Wright State University in Ohio.  He then practiced in a private setting in Sycamore and Downer's Grove, Illinois before coming to Fox Eye Laser & Cosmetic Institute to establish the Department of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Stangler is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  Dr. Stangler is a published author of textbooks in his specialty and has presented many lectures to colleagues and patients. At Fox Eye, he specializes in both functional and cosmetic ophthalmic procedures. Dr. Stangler is credited with bringing the specialty of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery to Cedar Rapids.
