E-LASIK (LASEK)
E-LASIK (Laser Epithelium Keratomileusis) is a refractive surgery procedure that also permanently changes the shape of the cornea. First, the epithelium (the outermost layer of the cornea) is loosened with a diluted alcohol solution. Next, the epithelium is rolled back to expose the tissue underneath. The laser is applied to reshape the cornea and the epithelium is returned back to its original position. A clear contact lens is placed on the cornea for a few days to aid in healing and to protect the eye.
